The stories coming out of Malaysia seem to be stupider by the day. It just seems like there are no longer any sane people left in the country!
How is it even possible for Malaysia, with a 60% majority Muslim, to become a Christian country?! Especially when you have rabid groups like Perkasa daily baying about unseen bogeyman out to undermine Islam and taking away the rights of the Malays?
If it had been any other paper publishing the unfounded and inflammatory story on plans to install a Christian Prime Ministry and to turn the country into a Christian one, ISA would have been invoked, its publishing permit revoked, and the editors hauled off to Kamunting! But the paper in question being Utusan Malaysia (UMNO owned), it did not even get a slap on the wrist from the government.
But as it is, all you get is some tepid response from some UMNO leaders, mostly mumbles about not believing in hearsay, and allowing the police to investigate the authenticity of the stories as published by two pro-UMNO bloggers.
And as to the Prime Minister of Malaysia being Christian, I ask the same question that Bernard Dompok, the only Christian Minister who has the gonads to speak up on the issue, “What is wrong with having a Christian Prime Minister?” There is nothing in the Constitution that bars a non-Muslim or a non-Malay from holding that position.
What Utusan Malaysia is doing is clearly with the approval of UMNO, and an indication of UMNO’s a desperate attempt at winning back the Malay vote. I hope sane Malaysians can see through this despicable method of stirring religious and racial tensions by UMNO surrogates.
It is of no benefit to the country when there are chaos between the different religious and racial groups. Why should the country burn just so a few corrupt politicians can hang on to their power?
