Another Ops Lallang

The UMNO-led BN government is, again, misusing and abusing the Internal Security Act, in its desperate attempts to protect itself from losing its grip on power.

If UMNO leaders think that their action of “shooting the messenger” for disclosing their abuse of power, corruption and racist tendencies, is going to make the rakyat think any better of them, then I think they are sadly mistaken.

The sudden rash of ISA arrests on Raja Petra, a blogger, Tan Hoon Cheng, a reporter for the Chinese-language Sin Chew Daily, and Theresa Kok, an opposition politician, is indicative of desperation from a government which does not think twice about using thuggish tactics and draconian laws at shutting down dissent.

I think it is about time Malaysians put at end to the BN-led government. Malaysians should write, sms, call, and do whatever it takes to “persuade” their elected representatives to leave BN (especially those in Sabah and Sarawak) so that Anwar Ibrahim can form a new government. Anwar Ibrahim should promise the rakyat that if he is the Prime Minister, the first thing he would do, would be to abolish all draconian laws like the ISA, the Official Secrets Act and the Printing Presses and Publications Act.

I think the rakyat is ready for a better and more transparent government, a government that has no need to hang on to power by abusing laws on the flimsiest of reasons.  Stoking racial and religious sentiments, my foot!

The Prime Minister is a disgrace and has completely lost all moral authority to lead the country.  He and his cohorts are totally blind to the aspirations of the people.   So blind as to regress to a more authoritarian society instead of a freer and open society.

I cry for you, my beloved Malaysia.
