Anwar’s arrest

Lessons learnt from Anwar’s arrest today:

1. The police can arrest anyone pre-emptively, just in case you know, the person does not show up at the police station to have his statement taken on the appointed date and time. (re Malaysiakini)

2. The police can arrest anyone even if they don’t have the proper documents with them to make the arrest. (re Bernama)

3. It takes three police squad cars, and about 20 police personnel to arrest one man … especially if that one man is Anwar Ibrahim. (re Bernama)

4. The police can hold the person for 24 hours and up to 14 days for questioning/to assist them in their investigations, with the approval of the courts. (re Bernama)

5. Sodomy is a very serious offence, and if found guilty, er the “sodomiser”, can be whipped and be jailed up to 20 years. The sodomised can be jailed up to six months for allowing himself/themselves to be sodomised. (re Anwar’s 1998 case)

6. That even before a person is found guilty of the crime of sodomy a politician can say publicly that he believed the accused was involved in “doing such things.” (re Mukhriz Mahathir)

The country has gone to the dogs. Of all the crimes that are taking place in this country, an opposition leader’s sexual preferences, if any, has taken center stage.

No conspiracy?  It’s hard to believe there isn’t any.

    Puteri,
I think Anwar is probably innocent of this charge (and the previous conviction also). Even if he is guilty, I don’t think sodomy is something to send people to jail for, unless done forcibly, or in public, or with a minor.
In any case, a person should be considered innocent until PROVEN guilty.
