You know what I think of this Malaysiakini story about Karpal Singh receiving a live bullet and a threatening letter? It’s one of those chickens coming home to roost stories.
When you are constantly told how special you are as a race, how no one should question this government endorsed special treatment, how your rights are sacrosanct and cannot be questioned, how the pronouncements of royalty are like the pronouncements of a demi-god, naturally some people will take real offence and feel threatened by what Karpal Singh has said. Karpal Singh says a lot of things, and he has the right to say the things he has been saying especially in his capacity as a lawyer defending someone or as an elected representative representing his constituents.
I think that it is despicable that someone would threaten Karpal with a live bullet and with a written letter saying that that bullet would be lodged on his forehead if he does not cease from being critical of the powers of the Sultan and the special rights of the Malays.
How will the police proceed with investigating this threat against Karpal’s life? Will they take this threat seriously, or will they just pretend that it never happened because after all, Karpal is just an opposition politician?
This threat against Karpal is just a microcosm of the increasing polarisation that is being experienced in this country. A sad state of affairs indeed.
